Elgin De Luxe. Sculptural White Gold case
For your consideration is this exercise in design detail from the Elgin Watch Company, founded 1864 in Elgin, Illinois. This mid century model presents a 14k white gold RGP bezel, sculptured and detailed case with stainless steel back. The dial is a masterpiece of detail with markers, seconds chapter and dagger hands all revolving around diamond shapes. The case has sculpted detail at 3 and 9, more at 12 and 6, all integrated into the lug design. This all adds up to considerable wrist presence. The 19 jewel movement is clean, accurate and fully serviced 8 months ago. I think Elgin is the most underrated of the American watchmaking giants, producing millions of watches that can hold their own in design and quality against anything coming from the Swiss. The period that this watch dates from was particularly fruitful in design. You will see Elgins of this vintage listed cheaper. For the most part, they are on their way to the scrapyard. The photos are to be considered part of the description.
